Pink Strip

I'm in a pink mood!  It's just a very girly and cheerful colour.  If I'm not very happy, I have to surround myself with happy things.  Nails first =)  This is a really simple design.  Fairly easy to do.

You will need:
  • Rimmel Peach Petal (pale pink)
  • NYC Paparazzi Pink Glitter (fine pink glitter)
  • Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Tea Rose (light pink)
  • Jordana Island Fuchsia (pink)
  • Color Club Matte Top Coat
  • 35 mins

 1. Paint a pale pink base.

2.  This step is optional but I put a matte top coat over the light pink.  I'm testing out the Color Club's Matte Top Coat.  It's pretty nice when you let it completely dry.

3.  Paint a large diagonal strip with fine pink glitter.

4.  Paint thinner strip of light pink over the glitter strip.  Make sure to leave the glitter exposed too.

5.  Finally paint a thin pink strip in the middle.  You're done! That was easy =)

As you can tell, when I paint on my own nails, I tend to be more messy.  The messy bits come off in the shower anyway.  Give this one a go!  The only time consuming part was that the pale pink (Rimmel's pink petal) had to painted on 3 times to get it be it's true color in the bottle.

I should probably mention that when I tell you the time it takes to do the design, it really is just to do the design.  I don't factor in the drying time.

Good luck!

Gimme Cupcakes!

Mmm cupcakes.  Been craving this sweet treat lately.  Until this craving is satisfied, I'll just paint some on my nails. =P

You will need:
  • Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Tea Rose (light pink)
  • NYC in a New York Color Minute Greenwich Village (hot pink)
  • Rimmel Nail Tip Whitener (white)
  • Joe Jade (green)
  • Rimmel Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away (blue)
  • Wet n' Wild Red Red (red)
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow (yellow)
  • Rimmel Super Wear Top Coat
  • Paper clip
  • Thin Paintbrush
  • 40 mins
 1.  Paint a light pink base.

2.  Make vertical lines with a thin painbrush and hot pink.  You don't have to go all the way to the tip since the icing goes there.

3.  Paint 3 curves above the vertical lines with white.

4. Paint the rest of it.

5.  Dot on sprinkles!

6.  Top coat and done!

This was a quick one really.  I decided to only do it to two of my fingers.  I actually really like this one: http://www.allthingscupcake.com/2010/11/24/cupcake-nail-art/

I think my next nail blog will come much later.  I've got one heck of a week ahead of me.

Ahh I really want cupcakes!  Have fun ^^

You Give Me Butterflies

When flowers bloom, butterflies are around.  I've seen this design done on a sales associate at H&M.  I loved it! Her's was blue though.  I found a similar one here too: http://anosognosia.tumblr.com/post/742147786/via-unicorn-guts
This is really pretty and I didn't find it difficult to do.  Hope you like it!

You will need:
  • Jordana Mango (pearl orange)
  • Jordana Black
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On
  • Rimmel Super Wear Top Coat
  • Paper clip
  • Thin paintbrush optional
Pretty basic bunch

 1.  Paint a gradient of orange from one side to the other.  I went from left to right.

 2.  Paint a black tip.  You don't have to be neat because it will get fixed up later.

3.  Paint down one side of the nail with black.  Carry it onto the edge closer to the cuticle about half way.

4.  Now comes a series of curved lines to paint. Connecting from where the line ends on the bottom, draw a curved line to the other side of the nail as shown.

 5.  Now starting for that line, paint curves towards the tip of the nail as shown.  I think it's better to look at the pictures than for me to describe it.  You get the idea?

6.  Clean up the harsh corners by curving them to make them rounder.

7.  Dot on some white around the tips.  Top coat it and you're done!

One of my faves for sure. It can look a little loud but I think it's still really pretty.  You don't have to do it to every nail too.  I usually just do one or two nails in the butter fly pattern.  The rest are orange with a black tip.  Hope I gave you butterflies =)

Share!

If you like what you see here, please share! =)

I've seen some blogs/tumblrs pop up with some of my designs.  I would love it if you could just link back to me whenever you paint something inspired by my blogs.  I'll gladly link to yours as well!

Some nails may not be originals (like pinstripes is pretty standard and marble nails have been done by many people).  But please share!  I'll give back =)

Gosh, I sound so serious!  Excuse me.

Pokadot Mani

It's starting to become a busy couple of weeks for me.  The tutorials are coming out less not because I'm uninspired.  Just can't find the time to do them.  Feeling a bit funky today, but wanted something fast, I decided to do pokadots.  Dotting is fast to do but long to dry.  Since I'm not putting it on my own nails, I didn't mind =)

You will need:
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away (aqua blue)
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On (white)
  • Rimmel Super Wear Top Coat (clear)
  • Hard Candy Walk the Line Eyeliner Lace (silver glitter)
  • Paper clip
  • 40 mins?
Yes, the eyeliner is weird.  I'll explain later.

1.  Tape a slanted line across the nail as a guide.  You can do a manicure tip or paint the whole nail if you'd like instead.

2.  Paint an aqua blue at the tip of the nail.  Don't worry about mess, that's what the guide is for =)

3.  Using a paper clip, dot white dots over the aqua blue tips.  Keeping them lined up a certain direction gives the best looking results.  Don't be afraid to dot partial dots on the edges!

4.  Once the white has dried a little, dot over a few of the white dots with the same aqua blue colour.  These dots should be smaller to make it look like there are white rings instead of dots.

5.  Peel the tap off and you should have something like this!  I suggest using manicure tape or something that doesn't leave sticky bits on your nails.

6.  Use a fine glitter nail polish with a liner brush.  I'm using my eyeliner because I don't have such a thing.  But you can buy the polish with the brush at any drugstore.  I'm using my glitter eyeliner to show you.

7.  Top coat everything and it should look like this.  Fun!

I love wearing this design on my entire nail rather than taping it off.  But since the colour is so bright, I thought I should mute it a bit by taping it off.  I also usually wear it on my big toe =)

This one is so simple! You have to try it!

Pinstripes

Yup, the simple pinstripe.  You can use any colour to suit your outfit, mood, or occasion.  I'm just in love with pastels lately.  It's pretty simple to do.  I struggled a bit with my less dominant hand but otherwise, not bad.

You will need:
  • Joe Faded Violet (lavender)
  • Rimmel Super Wear Top Coat
  • Decorative beads (optional)
  • Thin paintbrush
  • 40 mins
1. Paint a base for your nail.  Nothing special =P

2.  Paint thin lines from the cuticle to the end of the nail.  I like to use the flat edge of the paintbrush and keep the polish only on one side of the brush.  You can see my lines aren't super straight.  But if you want it perfectly straight, you can use tape to guide you.  Or you can use the special decorative nail tape to skip the painting all together.

3.  I added decorative beads to alternating stripes just for fun.  Add a top coat and you're done!

My nails are in need of some TLC!  All this hospital hand washing is making them really dry.  When I get the time, I'll let you know what I do to take care of my hands and nails.  Hope you'll have fun doing this tutorial!

Good luck!
