Let's Go Sailing!

I love nautical stripes!  It reminds me of sunny weather on the water.  This nail design is easy to do as long as you have steady hands to make horizontal stripes.  Shall we?

You will need:

• Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White on
• Wet N Wild Wild Shine Sapphire Blue
• Rimmel Top Coat
• Gold decorative beads
• Thin paintbrush
• Toothpick (to put the beads on)
• 45 mins

1.  Paint a white tip.  You don't need to use a guide.

2.  Paint on the navy horizontal lines over the white tips.  You need a steady hand but a good trick is to roll the finger you are painting on.

3.  For the ring finger, instead of painting just the tip, do the whole nail.

4.  Paint a top coat and add on decorative beads while it's still wet.  Make an anchor shape.  The go over it again with the top coat.

And there you go.  You can paint the whole nail for the entire hand instead of just the tips.  It might even look better.  I painted this before I went to LA.  Thought I would wear it but I'm a nail picker.  So I picked out the anchor while figuring out what to pack. =(

Pink Strip

I'm in a pink mood!  It's just a very girly and cheerful colour.  If I'm not very happy, I have to surround myself with happy things.  Nails first =)  This is a really simple design.  Fairly easy to do.

You will need:

• Rimmel Peach Petal (pale pink)
• NYC Paparazzi Pink Glitter (fine pink glitter)
• Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Tea Rose (light pink)
• Jordana Island Fuchsia (pink)
• Color Club Matte Top Coat
• 35 mins

 1. Paint a pale pink base.

2.  This step is optional but I put a matte top coat over the light pink.  I'm testing out the Color Club's Matte Top Coat.  It's pretty nice when you let it completely dry.

3.  Paint a large diagonal strip with fine pink glitter.

4.  Paint thinner strip of light pink over the glitter strip.  Make sure to leave the glitter exposed too.

5.  Finally paint a thin pink strip in the middle.  You're done! That was easy =)

As you can tell, when I paint on my own nails, I tend to be more messy.  The messy bits come off in the shower anyway.  Give this one a go!  The only time consuming part was that the pale pink (Rimmel's pink petal) had to painted on 3 times to get it be it's true color in the bottle.

I should probably mention that when I tell you the time it takes to do the design, it really is just to do the design.  I don't factor in the drying time.

Pinstripes

Yup, the simple pinstripe.  You can use any colour to suit your outfit, mood, or occasion.  I'm just in love with pastels lately.  It's pretty simple to do.  I struggled a bit with my less dominant hand but otherwise, not bad.

You will need:

• Joe Faded Violet (lavender)
• Rimmel Super Wear Top Coat
• Decorative beads (optional)
• Thin paintbrush
• 40 mins

1. Paint a base for your nail.  Nothing special =P

2.  Paint thin lines from the cuticle to the end of the nail.  I like to use the flat edge of the paintbrush and keep the polish only on one side of the brush.  You can see my lines aren't super straight.  But if you want it perfectly straight, you can use tape to guide you.  Or you can use the special decorative nail tape to skip the painting all together.

3.  I added decorative beads to alternating stripes just for fun.  Add a top coat and you're done!

My nails are in need of some TLC!  All this hospital hand washing is making them really dry.  When I get the time, I'll let you know what I do to take care of my hands and nails.  Hope you'll have fun doing this tutorial!
